A recent survey by Gartner reveals that 85% of CEOs globally consider cybersecurity essential for driving business growth. Conducted between June and November 2024 with 456 CEOs and senior executives worldwide, these findings are particularly relevant for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) in Asia, who are navigating an increasingly complex digital landscape.
The survey highlights that 61% of CEOs express growing concern about cybersecurity threats, a concern amplified by the rising role of artificial intelligence in business operations and ongoing geopolitical debates surrounding technology sourcing. As risk thresholds evolve, executives in Asia are beginning to view cybersecurity not just as a protective measure, but as a critical component of their growth strategies.

David Furlonger, distinguished vice president analyst and Gartner fellow, emphasises this shift: “Cybersecurity is no longer just about protection; it’s a critical driver for business growth.
"With 85% of CEOs recognising its importance, security leaders have a unique opportunity to demonstrate the value of cybersecurity investments not only in safeguarding assets but also in enabling strategic business objectives.” David Furlonger
For CISOs in Asia, this presents a crucial opportunity to align security initiatives with broader business goals. Furlonger notes, “CEOs should highlight the role of security leaders in protecting the business and enhancing cybersecurity to drive growth. This involves assessing risks in foreign markets and ensuring robust intellectual property protection.” By articulating how cybersecurity facilitates enterprise growth, CISOs can enhance their influence within the organisation.
The connection between strong cybersecurity measures and business competitiveness is particularly pronounced in Asia, where rapid digital transformation is often accompanied by heightened regulatory scrutiny and cyber threats. Many CEOs are now recognising a direct correlation between their cybersecurity capabilities and overall business performance, reinforcing the need for CISOs to adopt a proactive and strategic approach.
As organisations in Asia face unique challenges—from diverse regulatory environments to sophisticated cyber threats—the role of cybersecurity as a catalyst for growth cannot be overstated. By prioritising security, CISOs can not only protect vital assets but also position their organisations for success in an increasingly competitive market.
In conclusion, as the business landscape in Asia continues to evolve, embracing cybersecurity as a strategic advantage will be essential. This evolving narrative empowers CISOs to play a pivotal role in driving organisational success, transforming security from a compliance necessity into a cornerstone of business growth.
