CrowdStrike's 2024 State of AI in Cybersecurity Survey reveals a significant preference among security leaders for integrated Generative AI (GenAI) solutions over standalone products. According to the survey, 80% of respondents favour platform-based GenAI tools, indicating a growing demand for technologies that enhance efficiency across security operations.
A notable 63% of respondents expressed intentions to overhaul their existing security stacks to incorporate fully integrated GenAI solutions. This shift reflects organisations' responses to challenges such as skills shortages, the increasing speed and sophistication of cyber threats, and operational complexities. The findings suggest a clear trend towards adopting purpose-built, platform-integrated GenAI tools tailored to meet the specific needs of cybersecurity.
Key insights from the survey include a strong preference for unified cybersecurity platforms, with 80% of respondents prioritising integration as their top requirement for GenAI technology. There is also a pressing need for enhanced detection and response capabilities, as 74% of participants reported experiencing a security breach in the past year or expressed concerns about vulnerabilities.
Furthermore, 76% of respondents indicated that they prefer GenAI tools specifically designed for cybersecurity, dismissing general-purpose applications. The survey highlights that security analysts view GenAI as a means to augment their roles, enhancing productivity while reducing burnout and alert fatigue. This perspective underscores that GenAI is seen as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human expertise.
Additionally, responsible adoption of GenAI is a priority, with nearly 90% of respondents establishing guidelines for its use. This emphasis on safety and privacy controls reflects a consensus that integration, security, and privacy are critical for realising the full potential of GenAI in cybersecurity.
Elia Zaitsev, CTO at CrowdStrike, noted that the survey signals a shift in the cybersecurity industry towards platform-based solutions. He emphasized that unlocking GenAI's true potential relies on seamless integration across systems, which can optimise analyst productivity and enhance threat detection.
CrowdStrike's approach to this trend includes the introduction of Charlotte AI, a purpose-built GenAI solution designed to empower security teams. This initiative, along with other innovations in the CrowdStrike Falcon cybersecurity platform, aims to redefine the standards of speed, accuracy, and effectiveness in cybersecurity operations.
