PayMongo resolves 75% of incidents before merchants are affected

Philippine fintech infrastructure provider PayMongo says it is resolving 75% of incidents before they reach merchants after consolidating observability and security operations on Datadog’s platform.

The move is a response to PayMongo’s rapid growth in transaction volumes, merchant numbers and payment methods. PayMongo supports businesses in the Philippines with payment acceptance, access to capital and financial-management services through a cloud-based platform.

For a payments provider operating in a regulated environment, service availability is closely linked to merchant revenue and customer confidence. PayMongo said its engineers had previously been required to switch between fragmented tools, while security visibility was inconsistent across the organisation. It adopted Datadog to create a unified view of the payment journey and correlate operational and security signals more quickly.

“Uptime and transaction reliability are absolutely mission-critical for us,” said Jose Dalino, chief product and technology officer at PayMongo. “Every second of downtime means real money lost for the tens of thousands of businesses that rely on us to collect payments from their customers.”

Following the deployment, PayMongo said mean time to restore has fallen from hours to minutes. The company is using Datadog’s AI-powered anomaly detection, service-level objective-based alerting and Synthetic Monitoring to identify issues across its payment operations.

The platform can detect when a payment partner becomes unavailable, notify merchants and automatically pause affected payment methods. PayMongo said this helps protect the checkout experience, reduce abandoned carts and prevent disruption from spreading to merchants.

“For a payments company, having complete visibility into every step of a transaction and the confidence to act on it instantly is a game changer,” Dalino said. He added that the company had become a preferred partner for major sales events where near-zero downtime is required.

The deployment also brings security and observability data together. Datadog’s Cloud SIEM correlates signals from endpoint protection, identity systems and network activity with application and infrastructure data. PayMongo’s security and engineering teams can therefore view affected services and transactions in a single operational context when a threat emerges.

As AI-generated code becomes more prominent in software development, PayMongo is also using Datadog Code Security to scan for vulnerabilities before code reaches production. The company specifically cited risks such as exploitable phantom package references.

“Having security and observability on the same platform has fundamentally changed how our teams work,” Dalino said. “We can detect, investigate, and respond to threats faster because we have the full picture in one place.”

Adrian Towsey, vice president of Commercial Sales for Asia-Pacific and Japan at Datadog, said the combined approach gives PayMongo the visibility and control needed to scale while maintaining merchant trust.

PayMongo said it processes billions of dollars in monthly payment volume and supports tens of thousands of local businesses. Its own documentation states that the platform provides security controls including API keys, multi-factor authentication and security logs.
