Fortinet has introduced FortiAppSec Cloud, a new platform designed to integrate key web application security and performance management tools into a single offering. This cloud-delivered solution aims to streamline web and API security, advanced bot defence, and global server load balancing, addressing the complexities faced by organisations managing hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Vincent Hwang, vice president of Cloud Security at Fortinet, highlighted the challenges of securing modern web applications, which form the backbone of contemporary enterprises but present a significant attack surface. The introduction of FortiAppSec Cloud is intended to converge AI-powered security measures with essential performance management tools, thereby simplifying the management of web application security and reducing associated risks and costs.
The need for a unified approach to web application security is underscored by findings from Fortinet’s 2024 Cloud Security Report, which indicated that 95% of cybersecurity professionals prefer a single-dashboard solution to improve visibility and streamline security policies. Current security solutions often require organisations to compromise between security and simplicity, a challenge that FortiAppSec Cloud seeks to address by centralising management features.
The platform offers comprehensive visibility and control over web applications within multi-cloud environments. Key features include advanced bot defence that employs machine learning and behavioural analysis to safeguard applications from various threats, including account takeovers and data theft. Additionally, global server load balancing is integrated to ensure optimal application performance through intelligent traffic routing and failover capabilities.
FortiAppSec Cloud also leverages a machine learning-driven engine for web and API security, supported by real-time threat intelligence from FortiGuard Labs. This system enhances the identification of anomalies and helps differentiate between legitimate users and potential threats, reducing false positives and improving response times.
