Barracuda Networks has launched a new Integrated Cloud Email Security (ICES) solution designed to counter the escalating speed and sophistication of AI-driven cyber threats. The unveiling comes alongside stark new research from the company’s Red Team, demonstrating that a single phishing email can lead to a full system compromise, including identity theft and MFA bypass, in as little as five minutes .

The new solution represents a strategic shift from traditional, point-in-time security to a continuous, autonomous defence model. Built on the BarracudaONE platform, Integrated Email Protection uses AI to correlate signals across email, identity, network, and applications.
This cross-domain telemetry allows the system to detect and remediate threats across the entire attack lifecycle, including those that evolve long after a message has been delivered .
Rohit Ghai, CEO at Barracuda, emphasised the changing nature of the threat landscape. “Email is no longer a human-centric communication platform; it’s an operational fabric where humans and AI interact, making it a much bigger target and amplifying the speed, scale and impact of attacks,” he stated.
The solution is designed to meet this challenge by providing visibility and automated response, turning cross-domain signals into "explainable action" that customers can trust and control.
Research exposes attack velocity
The launch is underscored by new findings from Barracuda Research, which highlight the machine-speed nature of modern attacks. In an end-to-end recreation of a multi-stage AI-powered attack, the Barracuda Red Team demonstrated how an initial AI-generated phishing email can progress to endpoint compromise in minutes.
Key findings reveal that one in seven compromised accounts is now used to launch additional attacks, a figure expected to rise with AI-driven threat automation . This lateral movement expands risk rapidly across identities and data, placing immense pressure on organisations to detect and respond in real time.
Key capabilities
Barracuda Integrated Email Protection strengthens Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace with several AI-powered features. The solution introduces agentic threat investigation and response, enabling AI agents to execute real-time "clawback" of malicious messages across an entire tenant, eliminating hours of manual cleanup .
A key differentiator is the Bailey AI assistant, which provides plain-language explanations for security decisions. This allows teams to review and reverse automated actions, offering control over the AI, unlike opaque, "black-box" solutions.
The platform also offers a unified quarantine view, consolidating Microsoft Defender quarantines into a single pane for streamlined management.
