In an age where sophisticated threats like deepfakes and AI-driven attacks are prevalent, the study underscores a crucial shift in cybersecurity strategy. Traditional MFA methods now struggle to withstand modern social engineering attacks.

Ronnie Manning, Yubico’s chief brand advocate, emphasised the foundational importance of phishing-resistant MFA in today’s cybersecurity landscape, stating that it has become essential for organisational resilience.

A Forrester Total Economic Impact report highlights how organisations can achieve a remarkable 265% return on investment (ROI) by utilising YubiKeys as a replacement for traditional multi-factor authentication (MFA) and one-time passwords (OTPs).

According to Yubiko, organisations deploying YubiKeys reportedly eliminated phishing and credential theft risks, slashing exposure to breach costs by an astounding 99.99%.

Key findings reveal total benefits of $7.3 million over three years. Notable gains include:

  • Strengthened security ($1.6 million): By removing phishing risks, organisations reduced the chances of credential-based breaches significantly.
  • Enhanced user experience ($2.2 million): YubiKeys facilitated authentication speeds that were 80% faster than legacy methods, easing password policy complexities.
  • Operational efficiency ($1.7 million): Savings included $912,000 from labour costs related to investigations and another $476,000 from reduced help desk requests for password resets.
  • Business growth ($1.9 million): Improved security bolstered brand trust, aiding in compliance and winning new business.

Yubico is not just focused on financial outcomes but is also steadfast in supporting organisations transitioning to a Zero Trust architecture. YubiKeys provide versatile security across various environments and protocols, ensuring comprehensive protection from legacy systems to modern applications.

In addition, Yubico offers a suite of enterprise services like YubiKey as a Service, converting capital expenditures into predictable operational costs and facilitating seamless deployment and management of YubiKeys.
