Panasonic is involved in various sectors, including consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial systems. The role of Panasonic Information Systems is pivotal, overseeing the planning and development of the Group's information systems across diverse business areas such as retail and manufacturing.
The decision to adopt CyberArk stemmed from the need to resolve inefficiencies associated with a manual approach to privileged access management, which encompassed numerous Windows and Linux servers.
Previously, server administrators were also tasked with inventory checks and asset management inquiries, a process that was not only time-consuming but also prone to security vulnerabilities.
Panasonic Information Systems has successfully implemented the CyberArk Identity Security Platform, enhancing security measures for privileged access across thousands of servers within the Panasonic Group. This initiative is a significant part of Panasonic’s digital transformation strategy, aimed at modernising its IT security infrastructure.
Hiroshi Yagi, director of the Professional Services Department at Panasonic Information Systems, highlighted the importance of this transition: “One of the key priorities of our digital transformation is strengthening our security defenses globally.”
He noted that the partnership with CyberArk has allowed Panasonic to modernise its privileged access management, standardising security policies across the organisation.
The implementation of CyberArk Privileged Access Manager has centralised and automated the granting of privileged access to servers, providing critical visibility into user activities. This system tracks who accessed which server, when, and what operations were performed, thereby improving audit trails and facilitating post-incident investigations.
Additionally, the platform ensures that credentials and passwords are hidden from users, with automated granting and rotation features enhancing overall security.
“Threat actors today continue to develop new identity-centric attacks, necessitating a shift in how privileged access is secured,” said Mitsuro Kakizawa, regional director for Japan at CyberArk.
He noted that CyberArk has enabled Panasonic to secure privileged access for all identities, in any environment, thereby increasing cyber resilience and operational efficiency.
As organisations face increasing security challenges, the collaboration between Panasonic Information Systems and CyberArk exemplifies a proactive approach to cybersecurity. By modernising access management processes, Panasonic not only protects its critical assets but also sets a benchmark for operational excellence in the digital age.
