In an era where digital threats are escalating—93% of enterprises reported increased threats in the past year, according to the 2024 Thales Data Threat Report—organisations are confronted with the challenge of safeguarding data within diverse environments, including cloud and on-premises systems.

Thales has introduced Data Risk Intelligence, a new solution designed to improve visibility and proactive management of data risks across organisations. The solution integrates the data security strengths of both the Imperva Data Security Fabric and Thales CipherTrust Data Security Platform, marking a significant step following Thales’s recent acquisition of Imperva.

Data Risk Intelligence aims to provide security teams with comprehensive insights into their data landscape, identifying potential vulnerabilities and risks. The solution combines posture- and behaviour-based risk indicators to deliver a cohesive view of data risks. This allows CIOs, CISOs, and data risk professionals to discern the most critical data at risk based on severity and likelihood, enabling informed decision-making regarding risk mitigation.

Todd Moore

“The ability to view data risk in key dimensions across organisational risk, asset risk, and regulatory risk in one place is extremely impactful,” said Todd Moore, vice president of Data Security Products at Thales.

Data Risk Intelligence offers a confident risk score alongside actionable recommendations derived from a variety of data risk indicators. These include monitoring user permissions, identifying data source vulnerabilities, and assessing encryption practices in line with NIST standards. By utilising advanced analytics and machine-learning techniques, the solution prioritises the highest-risk data, facilitating effective risk management.

Jennifer Glenn

Jennifer Glenn, research director at IDC Security and Trust Group, emphasised the importance of centralising data risk visibility: “Centralising data risk visibility and management offers valuable context about the data—and its vulnerabilities—enabling organisations to prioritise protection where it’s needed most.”

Key features of Data Risk Intelligence include enhanced risk prioritisation, comprehensive visibility across the data estate, customisable risk indicators tailored to specific organisational needs, and robust encryption integration. These capabilities aim to simplify the complexity of data security, allowing organisations to implement protective measures effectively.

Data Risk Intelligence will be available to customers holding a current Data Security Fabric Data 360 license.
