In a significant shift, Indian Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are set to prioritize spending on endpoint and cloud security, driven by increasing vulnerabilities highlighted by recent cybersecurity incidents like the CrowdStrike outage. According to Gartner, end-user spending on information security in India is expected to rise to US$3.4 billion by 2025, marking a 17.1% increase from the projected US$2.9 billion in 2024.
“The CrowdStrike outage highlighted critical internal vulnerabilities, emphasizing the need for many organizations to establish a more resilient and secure IT environment, prioritizing their spending on endpoint and cloud security,” said Shailendra Upadhyay, Sr principal at Gartner
This surge in investment is largely due to the urgent need for organizations to enhance their IT resilience and security frameworks. Upadhyay noted that the outage prompted many CISOs to reassess their prevention and response strategies, ensuring their teams have the necessary skills for effective recovery.
Among various segments, security services are forecasted to experience the highest growth, with managed security services alone expected to rise by 34.3%. Within this category, managed detection and response (MDR) services will see a staggering growth of 42.3%, driven by a talent shortage and the necessity for organizations to outsource cybersecurity expertise.
Additionally, spending on security software is projected to hit US$1.3 billion in 2025, fuelled by the increasing adoption of public cloud services and advancements in AI technology. This trend underscores the pressing need for enhanced security measures as both vendors and attackers continue to evolve.
