The proliferation of deepfake technology poses significant risks, making real-time detection increasingly crucial. Traditional detection methods often rely on visual cues such as unusual facial movements or inconsistencies in lip-syncing.
However, advancements in generative AI have made it easier for malicious actors to create high-quality deepfakes, complicating the identification process. Aletheia aims to provide users—whether individuals, enterprises, or government entities—with the ability to discern real from fake content immediately.
Ensign InfoSecurity has introduced "Aletheia," an AI-driven solution designed to detect manipulated audio and video content in real-time. Developed in-house by Ensign Labs, Aletheia can identify potential deepfakes within seconds, boasting a detection accuracy of up to 90%.
This solution will be available to enterprises and government agencies next month as an endpoint software and Chrome browser plug-in, with a mobile version currently under development.
The development of Aletheia involved using open-source tools to generate both deepfake and authentic audio and video, creating comprehensive training datasets for the AI detection models. The tool operates discreetly in the background, analysing audio frequencies and video pixels to validate media content. When a potential deepfake is detected, a notification sidebar appears on the user’s screen, indicating the authenticity of the media.
Aletheia is designed for seamless integration into organizational cybersecurity frameworks. For users on Windows systems, the software performs local analysis, ensuring privacy and reducing latency often associated with cloud processing. For users on other operating systems, the Chrome plug-in will alert them to audio and video deepfakes during their web browsing.
“The democratisation of deepfake technology has raised serious societal risks, from commercial fraud to manipulation of public opinion,” said Tan Ah Tuan, Head of Ensign Labs at Ensign InfoSecurity. He added that as technology evolves, the need for continuous updates to Aletheia will be essential to counter the latest deepfake tactics, reinforcing Ensign’s commitment to innovative cybersecurity solutions.
