Commvault has announced a game-changing solution for data resilience in the cloud with its launch of the Commvault Cloud Unified Data Vault, aimed at addressing the growing need for robust data protection in organisations utilising S3 storage.

This service delivers the immutability, encryption, and policy governance essential for safeguarding application and AI data, particularly as companies increasingly rely on S3 for their critical workloads.

In a world where S3 has become the go-to storage option for everything from databases like CockroachDB and Greenplum to platforms such as Docusign and monday.com, organisations often encounter challenges with fragmented data buckets. These setups pose hidden compliance risks and recovery delays when mishaps occur.

Commvault's Unified Data Vault significantly mitigates these issues by allowing data teams to move S3-compatible backups directly into a Commvault-managed, air-gapped environment that automatically applies essential protections, including deduplication and policy-based governance.

Pranay Ahlawat, chief technology and AI officer at Commvault, noted, “S3 fundamentally changed how data is stored. Unified Data Vault changes how that data is protected.”

This service enables developers and data teams to write directly to a Commvault-managed S3 endpoint, providing instant encryption and immutability without the need for agents or complex installations.

The benefits are compelling for businesses prioritising data integrity and security. The Unified Data Vault offers agentless simplicity, meaning applications can seamlessly write to a managed S3 endpoint without requiring custom scripts. This solution automates enterprise protection, granting immediate access to critical security features as soon as backups are created.

Additionally, the service boasts developer-ready programmability that integrates with native S3 workflows and APIs, streamlining DevOps automation. Centralised policy governance further ensures that consistent protection measures and user-defined compliance protocols are applied across various clouds, regions, and workloads.

“For many developers, S3 is the de facto data store for popular AI databases and applications," said Archana Venkatraman, senior research director at IDC. "The need to bring a strong resilience posture to these large data sets is paramount.”

Unified Data Vault not only facilitates ease of use for developers but also reassures SecOps and IT teams that end-to-end resilience is firmly in place.

With the advent of Commvault’s Unified Data Vault, organisations across Asia can enhance their cloud strategies and achieve the robust data protection essential for thriving in the digital age.
