Commvault has launched its Data Rooms offering, designed to empower enterprises in Asia to securely connect their trusted backup data to AI platforms. Announced in Singapore, this solution provides a robust environment for activating and sharing data, ensuring compliance and governance without compromising security.

As organisations accelerate their AI initiatives, many face the dual challenge of making data both accessible and trustworthy. A striking statistic reveals that nearly three-quarters of IT leaders believe that the integration of AI can heighten vulnerability to cyberattacks.

This concern underscores the need for a solution that safeguards sensitive information while facilitating its use. Commvault’s Data Rooms addresses this gap by transforming backup data into actionable, AI-ready assets.

“AI initiatives often stall because organisations can’t safely access or prepare the data they already have,” said Jonathan Brown, Lead Analyst at Omdia. “Commvault’s Data Rooms connect resilience and analytics in a controlled, auditable way, helping enterprises operationalise AI faster without increasing risk.”

Data Rooms enables authorised users to discover and prepare data directly from backup repositories across both on-premises and cloud environments.

By automating data discovery and classification, organisations can create curated datasets that are ready for AI and analytics applications. This offering operates within Commvault Cloud’s zero-trust architecture, ensuring that data remains protected through role-based access controls (RBAC) and encryption protocols.

Pranay Ahlawat, Commvault’s chief technology and AI officer says “Organisations are beginning to realise that their historical data is more than just insurance; it’s a powerful, untapped strategic asset. With Commvault Data Rooms, enterprises can confidently export their secondary data and harness it with the AI platform of their choice to unlock new opportunities for intelligence, innovation, and business growth.”

Key benefits:

  1. Accelerating Insights: Enterprises can bridge the gap between backup and analytics by discovering and exporting historical data in open-standard formats like Apache Iceberg and Parquet, essential for training AI models and enhancing business intelligence.
  2. Supporting Compliance: With AI-enabled classification and policy-based controls, organisations can maintain governance across the data lifecycle, ensuring that sensitive data is protected even as it is activated for analytics.
  3. Simplifying Operations: Data Rooms eliminate cumbersome ETL processes by automating data curation and delivery to analytics platforms like Microsoft Azure and Snowflake, enhancing operational efficiency.
  4. Trust as the Foundation for Responsible AI: By ensuring data remains governed and compliant, Commvault helps organisations build trust in their AI initiatives, aligning with regulatory standards and internal governance policies.
