the latest insights from HID's 2025 State of Security and Identity Report reveal a transformative shift in how organisations approach security. With a focus on mobile credentials, biometrics, and artificial intelligence, security leaders across the region are prioritising unified platforms and advanced technologies to bolster their security postures.
A shift towards mobile credentials
The adoption of mobile credentials is gaining momentum, with 61% of security leaders identifying their proliferation as a top trend. This shift marks a significant departure from traditional access methods such as cards and fobs. Nearly two-thirds of respondents either have deployed or plan to deploy mobile solutions in the near future. This trend is particularly relevant in urban environments across Asia, where convenience and security must coexist amid rising urbanisation.
Ramesh Songukrishnasamy, senior vice president and chief technology officer at HID, emphasised the urgency of this transition noting that organisations are seeking platforms capable of scaling with their needs while providing actionable intelligence.

Biometrics' growing influence
Alongside mobile credentials, the demand for biometric technologies—such as fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition—is on the rise. Currently, 35% of respondents report using biometric technology, with an additional 13% planning to implement it. The ability of biometrics to enhance security while improving user experience is becoming increasingly appealing, especially in sectors such as finance and healthcare, where identity verification is critical.
The integration of biometrics into multi-factor authentication strategies is particularly noteworthy. It not only strengthens security protocols but also aligns with the growing expectations of users for seamless and efficient access solutions.
Unified security management
As security technology diversifies, a significant 67% of security leaders are moving towards software-driven solutions that unify various data collection methodologies. This trend reflects a broader recognition of the need for integrated systems that provide a comprehensive view of security operations. The report highlights that 73% of leaders consider unifying their security functions as “somewhat” or “very important” to their organisations.
Security professionals are increasingly prioritising platforms that consolidate physical and digital functions—such as video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection—into cohesive systems. This shift not only enhances operational efficiency but also streamlines incident response, which is crucial in a fast-paced security environment.
The importance of interoperability
Interoperability is becoming synonymous with progress in the security sector, with over half of security professionals deeming open solutions as “extremely” or “very” important. This preference for open platforms reflects a strategic focus on seamless integration, allowing organisations to leverage the best technologies without being locked into proprietary systems.
Songukrishnasamy noted, "The demand for flexible and open solutions is paramount. They empower organisations to choose the best tools for their specific needs, maximising their technology investments."
Digital transformation in the channel
The security channel is undergoing a significant transformation driven by digital innovation. While 77% of channel partners report adapting well to these changes, they must continue to evolve to meet growing end-user demands for AI, cloud solutions, IoT integration, and advanced analytics. This adaptation is essential for maintaining relevance in a rapidly changing market.
The accelerated adoption of AI agents is enhancing security operations across Asia. Security leaders are increasingly recognising the benefits of AI, with 50% citing improved efficiency and speed of processes, while 47% highlight enhanced capabilities for real-time data analysis. The integration of AI into security management platforms is proving to be a game-changer, enabling organisations to detect and respond to threats more effectively.
Sustainability as a driving factor
Sustainability remains a critical consideration in security decision-making, with 75% of leaders factoring it into their solution selection processes. However, while sustainability is important, it is often secondary to security and cost-effectiveness, which remain the primary concerns for 80% of integrators and consultants. This balancing act underscores the necessity for solutions that not only enhance security but also align with broader environmental goals.
The trends highlighted in HID's report underscore the importance of embracing mobile credentials, biometrics, and AI while prioritising unified, open platforms.
