Part of Lenovo’s third Work Reborn report, titled Reinforcing the Modern Workplace. reveals that 65% of IT leaders admit their existing defenses are inadequate against AI-driven cybercrime.

This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for enterprises to bolster their cybersecurity measures in light of rapidly evolving threats.

As AI technologies drive efficiency and business improvements, they simultaneously enable a new wave of cybercriminal tactics that many organisations are ill-equipped to counter. The report highlights that only 31% of surveyed IT leaders feel confident in their ability to defend against AI-enabled attacks.

Key concerns for IT leaders in the face of these emerging threats:

  1. AI-Powered external threats: Cybercriminals are increasingly leveraging AI to execute more sophisticated attacks, such as polymorphic malware and AI-driven phishing. These threats are faster, more convincing, and harder to detect, posing significant challenges for traditional security systems.
  2. Insider risks: A striking 70% of IT leaders see employee misuse of AI as a major risk. Moreover, over 60% of respondents believe that AI agents create a new class of insider threats that they are unprepared to manage.
  3. Protection of AI systems: The models, training data, and prompts used in AI are now high-value targets for manipulation and compromise, necessitating new protective measures.

Advocating for a shift from reactive to resilient cybersecurity strategies, Lenmovo argues that IT leaders must adopt AI-driven defenses that can adapt in real-time to counter threats that learn and evolve.

“To keep up, organisations need intelligence that adapts as fast as the threats. That means fighting AI with AI,” said Rakshit Ghura, vice president & general manager of Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions.

As part of this initiative, Lenovo is embedding AI security at the device level. This approach transforms endpoints into self-defending assets, enhancing protection across the digital workplace.

The report also highlights the importance of proactive AI security measures as not only a defense mechanism but as a growth engine for enterprises. By establishing robust AI security foundations, organisations can unlock productivity gains and accelerate the adoption of AI-powered solutions.
