A new cyber report from Rubrik reveals that 62% of organisations surveyed in Singapore suffered a loss of sensitive data over the last year as it comes 2nd to India as the country with the highest percentage of organisations experiencing sensitive data loss globally over the last 12 months.

Data growth and losses

“The State of Data Security: The Journey to Secure an Uncertain Future,” based on a survey of over 120 local organisations, reveal that a typical organisation’s data has grown 42% over the last 18 months, with SaaS data growing to 145%, followed by cloud (73%) and on-premises (20%).

Amid data growth, 43% of organisations surveyed store sensitive data in multiple locations across cloud, on-premises, and SaaS environments, with 7% reporting a dedicated, sensitive data storage location.

More than half (62%) experienced a loss of sensitive information in the last year, with 23% experiencing multiple losses including corporate financial data (40%), payment card data (35%), and both authentication credentials and intellectual property (34%).

Meeting data security needs

The majority (86%) of respondents believe their organisation’s data growth is outpacing their ability to secure it. However, less than half (47%) appointed a single senior executive to handle data security.

Abhilash Purushathaman

Abhilash Purushothaman, vice president and general manager of Asia, at Rubrik, said, “Despite these transformative shifts, fundamental cybersecurity principles remain steadfast. We see an accelerated shift towards cyber resiliency, reshaping data protection initiatives and strategies across all industries, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive ransomware recovery and remediation plan – beyond legacy backup and recovery tools which were not made to withstand modern-day attack vectors.”
