Keeper Security has announced the launch of its passphrase generator for mobile devices, enhancing the security of user credentials on the Keeper platform. Initially available for Android users, this feature empowers individuals and organisations to create strong, customisable passphrases, addressing the rising threat of sophisticated cyber attacks. An iOS version is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
Weak and reused passwords are significant vulnerabilities, making the passphrase generator a timely solution. Unlike traditional passwords, which are often short and easily compromised, passphrases consist of multiple random words, offering a more robust defence against hacking attempts. This approach not only increases complexity but also enhances memorability for users.
Craig Lurey, CTO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, expressed excitement about this new feature, stating, “This allows our users to generate highly secure credentials directly on their devices, streamlining the login process while safeguarding their accounts.”
The passphrase generator is integrated with Keeper’s existing password generator, providing users and administrators the flexibility to select the best security option for their needs. It utilises a wordlist recommended by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which includes 7,776 words while excluding offensive terms. Users can customise their passphrases by adjusting the word count, choosing separators, and including numbers and capital letters, ensuring that each passphrase meets specific security requirements.
Additionally, Keeper is introducing an extended logout timer for Android users, allowing session durations to be adjusted from one minute to a maximum of two weeks. This feature caters to user requests for greater flexibility in session management.
Keeper’s updated Password Manager app for Android, rated 4.6 out of 5 stars with over 10 million downloads, simplifies the process of generating, managing, and storing passphrases. The app ensures that administrators can enforce consistent passphrase policies, bolstering security across organisations. Users can download the updated app from the Google Play Store, and it will automatically update for existing users.
