Experts at Imperva, Inc. have released the top cyber security trends facing enterprises in 2024, including GenAI realities, API security risks, and the dominance of social engineering attacks.
Cybersecurity readiness gap
“The gap in cybersecurity readiness will persist in Asia in the upcoming year,” says George Lee, senior vice president of Asia Pacific and Japan at Imperva.
“Cybersecurity readiness differs a lot depending on where you are in Asia. Mature economies like Japan and Australia face different challenges than developing economies like Bangladesh and Thailand. While ASEAN countries share a common interest in bolstering cybersecurity and investing substantial resources in the industry, achieving a unified regional standard akin to Europe will take time,” he added.
2024 Predictions
‘GenAI reality check’. The adoption of GenAI is both beneficial and detrimental. As cyber criminals leverage AI for more sophisticated attacks, organisations need to mitigate threats, says Reinhart Hansen, director of Technology within the Office of the CTO at Imperva.
Waking up to API risks. Lebin Cheng, head of API Security at Imperva, says that as pressure to mitigate API-related security incidents continues to grow in 2024, security leaders will look for and invest in solutions that integrate seamlessly into their existing application security technology stack.
Restoring data control. Terry Ray, SVP of Data Security at Imperva projects that 2024 will see organisations becoming more aware of the importance of data security. He says that organisations must realize the urgency of regaining control over their data by understanding where it is, how it is used, and whether it even needs to be stored.
