The Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) has launched a comprehensive Cyber Resilience Guide for board directors. This initiative, developed in collaboration with ISTARI and NCS, and supported by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), seeks to equip leaders with the necessary tools to navigate the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
Throughout 2025, SID and its partners will conduct a series of training sessions for board directors, grounded in the framework and principles detailed in the Cyber Resilience Guide. These sessions will incorporate simulations and case studies to enhance practical learning, with an expected reach of 500 board directors.
"The Cyber Resilience Guide for Boards in Singapore, together with the cyber resilience training initiative, is designed to help board directors build stronger cyber defences for their organisations," stated Yeoh Oon Jin, chair of SID.
At the launch event, senior lieutenant colonel Psalm Lew from Nexus highlighted the vital role of board directors: “Board directors can help their companies navigate through uncertainties, and as such, it is crucial that they are prepared to respond to crises and disruptions.” This sentiment underscores the need for leadership in the face of cyber challenges.
The guide articulates an eight-step process for cyber resilience, providing directors with actionable recommendations to tackle cyber security strategically. Martin Chee, managing director of ISTARI, encapsulated the essence of the guide: “Cyber threats are an ever-present risk, and boards play a critical role in ensuring their organisations remain vigilant and prepared.” This proactive stance is essential for maintaining business continuity amid increasing cyber threats.
The guide stresses the importance of understanding fiduciary duties and legal obligations related to cyber risk management. Veronica Tan from CSA noted, “With organisations becoming increasingly digitalised, cyber resilience becomes an integral part of enterprise risk management.” The guide serves as a vital resource, offering recommendations that help directors make informed decisions regarding cyber security and organisational resilience.
